"Short-Term Challenges Await Mothagaon-Mankholi Bridge: The Entry and Exit Problem"

Updated: Jul 4, 2023

As the opening of the bridge approaches in the coming months, initial usage by motorists is expected to generate positive traction for the newly constructed bridge. However, considering the dynamics of the location, job accessibility, and the barrier to entry and exit points, it might need an affiliated developments such as the Kalyan Ring Road.

Entry exit challenge: Mankholi (Bhiwandi- Thane)

Connectivity to Thane's Outskirts and Warehousing Regions

  • One of the challenges associated with the Mankholi-Mothagaon Bridge is that its connectivity to Thane may not be as beneficial for Mankholi itself as initially anticipated. While the bridge has been promoted to improve connectivity to Thane, it primarily connects to the outskirts of Thane or in very close proximity to Bhiwandi.

  • The landing of the bridge between Rajnoli and Majiwada, Thane, means that it falls short of connecting directly to the more developed and populated areas of Thane city. This can limit the convenience and accessibility of the bridge for the commuters, who may still have to travel a significant distance to access the major commercial and residential areas of Thane, Mulund or Mumbai.

Entry exit challenge: Mothagaon (Dombivli West)

  • Another challenge associated with the Mankholi-Mothagaon Bridge is the absence of a wide exit route from Dombivli East towards Dombivli West (Mothagaon Region). Currently, there are no efficient and convenient routes for residents of Dombivli East to access the bridge and reach Mothagaon.

  • Given the dynamics of Dombivli, where a significant working population resides in the eastern region, crossing the bridge and reaching Mothagaon can take up to 25 minutes, depending on the location of residence. This travel time can significantly impact the commuting experience and may not be as beneficial as initially anticipated, particularly for those travelling from Dombivli East to reach Thane.

  • The already congested and narrow roads in the area further exacerbate the challenge, making the bridge route less feasible for the major working population residing in Dombivli East.

  • To address this challenge, it is crucial to consider the development of wider and more accessible exit routes from Dombivli East towards Mothagaon. This would help alleviate congestion and enhance the overall convenience and effectiveness of the bridge as a means of connectivity between the two regions.

Kalyan Ring Road which connects towards Mothagaon, will serve as a crucial link, facilitating smoother connectivity to various key areas such as Shilphata Road, Kalyan, Ambivli, and Titwala.

Conclusion:

As the opening of the bridge approaches in the coming months, initial usage by motorists is expected to generate positive traction for the newly constructed bridge.

However, considering the dynamics of the location, job accessibility, and the barrier to entry and exit points, it might become evident that associated developments such as the Kalyan Ring Road and the expansion of the Mumbai-Nashik Highway are crucial to ensure the success of the Mothagaon-Mankholi project.
